Balcony Life

Balcony Life

The weather is finally getting better, and we all want to spend more time outdoors.  Those lucky enough to have outdoor space will know just how valuable it is.  However, the balcony is very often overlooked and is just not used to its full potential!  Bike store, laundry, general dumping ground, I've seen it all! Do you realise how much value you can add to your home, and I don't just mean financial.  Your health and wellbeing will all benefit from a little bit of chic styling.  Don't be afraid to go for it!

"But the balcony floor is tatty"  There is a lot you can do to improve the look of a tatty balcony floor.  Outdoor carpet, interlocking vinyl tiles, rubber flex, fake grass, timber, porcelain; there is so much on offer there is really no excuse.  Lots of vendors will provide samples for your to compare, like Balcony Space

"It's not very private though"  There are so many solutions for this, from planters with golden bamboo (real of course) to polyester screening, outdoor curtains, .  Ikea do a great, easy to attach wind and sun shield

Before you start with your balcony makeover, there are a few things you should consider.

  • Real plants will need regular watering! Have a stylish watering can positioned to add to the charm.
  • Safety - anything you place on your balcony will need to be secure, not too heavy.  And, very sorry but no BBQ's!
  • Consider party wall issues; you can't go hanging a swing from the balcony above as the balcony above doesn't belong to you.
  • Sun or Shade - your balcony will be facing one of them, and that will determine what design solution you require to create a comfortable usable space.
